The hairpin depicts three magnificent pavilions which are said replicate Zhu's residence.

It was excavated in 1958 from a joint burial site of Prince Zhu and his two wives, Wang and Wan, in East China’s Jiangxi province.

Wearing hair accessories which resembled architectural forms became fashionable among Ming’s upper-class women. All together nine such examples including the zan above were found in Zhu’s resting place.

These accessories stand in testimony to the sophisticated openwork at the time, especially leisi a unique gold filigree technique.
