Do you remember the crazy Croods family in the 2013 DreamWorks animated hit? Those adorable cave dwellers will be back on Chinese screens next Friday.
还记得2013年梦工厂动画片《疯狂原始人》里的克鲁德一家吗? 下周五，这些可爱的穴居人就要“回归”大银幕啦。
Earlier this month, I interviewed director Joel Crawford and producer Mark Swift about the sequel, The Croods: A New Age, and got to know some interesting stories.
本月初，我采访到《疯狂原始人2》的导演乔尔·克劳福德和制片人马克·斯威夫特，他们分享了不少幕后拍摄趣闻。

The interview was done through an online video app. It's perhaps one of the most interesting interviews I've ever attended. Aside from the creators, I can see two sloths hanging upon relaxed on branches, who are said to be "residents", respectively named Paulie and Sid, from the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California.
采访是以线上视频的方式进行。这可能是我参加过的最有趣的线上采访之一了。除了两位主创，我还看到了两只树懒，懒洋洋地挂在树枝上。据说它俩名叫保利和希德，目前生活在加州西尔玛野生动物学习中心。
As the movie features two pet sloths, respectively belonging to Eep and Dawn, so I guess Paulie and Sid were "invited" to remind us of their animated avatars in joyful movie.
因为电影里也有两只树懒，分别是两个女孩子小伊和多恩的宠物。所以我猜测，树懒保利和希德的华丽出场，大概是为了提醒我们，在这部热闹欢腾的续集里，可不要忽略这两位哦。
Crawford is very energetic and funny. He tells me a sort of "scary" story about his inspiration. A falling cinderblock chopped off the ends of Crawford's toes when he was a naughty child. He got a special cover to pad his wounded toes when he ran track in high school.
导演克劳福德幽默又富有活力。他告诉我一个有点“吓人”的小轶事。他小时候，也曾是个“熊孩子”。在一次玩耍中，有块渣煤砖掉下来，把他的脚指头砸掉了一点点。等他上高中后，为了能参加田径比赛，就用一种特殊材质的“小盖子”伪装了下自己受伤的脚指头。
This served as an inspiration for the film, in which Eep — the fearless and strong cave girl protagonist — shows her scars to Dawn in one scene. She wears a peanut shell in place of her missing pinky toe.
在电影里，这一往事成了导演的“缪斯”。当勇敢无畏的小伊向多恩展示她的伤疤时，其中有一处就是受伤的脚指头。小伊为了不让家人发现这个伤口，用一个花生壳套在缺失的小脚趾上伪装成“脚趾”。
Eep's is voiced by Emma Stone, who won Oscar's best actress for La La Land. She is said to especially love the running joke of Eep's "peanut toe". Stone was so excited about it and she couldn't stop laughing during the voiceover procedure.
小伊的配音是凭借《爱乐之城》获封奥斯卡“影后”的艾玛·斯通。据说，小伊的“花生脚趾”梗完全长在了她的笑点上，导致她在配音过程中一直笑个不停。
Picking up from where the first film ends in the fictitious "Croodaceous Age" — sort of like the Stone Age, when primitive people wore fur and lived in caves — the sequel unfolds with a new challenge facing the Croods family.
《疯狂原始人2》的故事紧接着上一部发生，还是发生在那个虚构的“克鲁德时代”。这个时代有点像石器时代，原始人身穿野兽毛皮制成的衣服，住在洞穴里。在新的故事里，克鲁德一家又遇上了新的麻烦。
Grug, the overprotective father, is struggling with his favorite daughter Eep's yearning to leave the patriarchal family with Guy, the nomadic outsider who wins the girl's heart in the first movie. They face an unprecedented crisis when they encounter a new family, the Bettermans, who knows how to build tree houses and plant fruits, representing a higher civilization.
因为小伊和盖堕入情网，想要另组小家庭，保护欲过度的“老父亲”瓜哥很是失落和不舍。这一路牵绊之下，他们无意中闯入另一个世界。那个世界里住着代表更高文明的贝特曼一家。后者会建造树屋，还能种植水果。
The Bettermans is quite a contrast to The Croods. To survive in the dangerous world, the Croods do everything as a pack. They hunt together, eat together... they even sleep in a giant pile with their tiger together.
这两家的风格，真是太迥然不同了。克鲁德一家为了在危险恶劣的环境中生存，做什么事儿都是集体出动。他们一起打猎，一起吃饭，甚至睡觉的时候，都是像个大球一样，和他们的老虎抱团睡在一起。
The Bettermans, by contrast, enjoy safety and comfort living in a luxurious tree house surrounded by a giant wall. Besides, they have built walls between themselves and sleep in separate bedrooms.
但贝特曼一家的画风，要原始“凡尔赛”得多。他们住在一个豪华的树屋里，给自己的乐园建起一栋与世隔绝的高墙。树屋里空间划分清晰，每个人都有自己单独的卧室。
Interestingly, the Bettermans has a man-bun hairstyle, which once reminded me of ancient Chinese men's hairstyle. But director Crawford tells me that he took the inspiration from hippie culture.
更有趣的是，贝特曼家的男人们梳着发髻，一度让我想起中国古人的发型。但导演克劳福德却告诉我，这个发髻的灵感来自于美国嬉皮士文化。
As the most eye-popping highlight, the film also features odd yet adorable creatures that are mixes of real animals and imagination. For instance, the Bettermans raises domesticated "chicken seals" and "cow mammoths", and drink "milk" from fictional "land sharks" that look like the actual sea creatures but live on land.
作为影片中最“吸睛”的一点，那就是新的故事里又出现许多奇奇怪怪、可可爱爱的史前动物，它们是在真实动物的基础上靠大胆想象加工出来的。比如，贝特曼一家的农庄里放牧着“鸡海豹”和“奶牛猛犸象”。他们的日常饮品是产自“陆地鲨鱼”的鲨鱼奶。
"Punch monkeys", the animal tribe obsessed with bananas, will also return in the sequel with their violent "language" of pummeling each other to communicate.
超级迷恋香蕉的拳王猴也再度归来，他们充满暴力美学的语言——互揍对方以表词达意，也将成为银幕笑点。
Although COVID-19 affected production, producer Mark Swift says they were lucky to finish most of the job before the outbreak, with stars Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds voicing the major characters in the original English version. Voiceovers proved the biggest challenge during quarantine.
影片英文版的配音，依旧集结了尼古拉斯·凯奇、艾玛·斯通和瑞恩·雷诺兹。制片人马克·斯威夫特说，尽管在疫情暴发前，他们幸运地完成大部分的制片工作，但疫情期间的隔离政策还是对后期的收尾工作造成较大影响。
"As we still had some to pick up, we were sending them microphones and computer equipment," Swift says. "Some people even recorded in a closet because that was the quietest room in their house."
“因为我们还有一些配音工作没做完，所以我们给配音演员们快递了麦克风和电脑设备。有些人甚至躲进自己的衣橱里录音，因为那是他们家里最安静的地方了。”
For audience who are expecting to spend a weekend with laughs and joys, it might be a right option to go theaters for the Croods family.
